A new trailer has just been released for Yoku’s Island Express, a “pinball platform adventure” developed by Villa Gorilla under Team17’s label set for release this year.

The game will employ a combination of platforming and pinball mechanics, with player character Yoku, postmaster of Mokumana Island, navigating the world while rolling along a big ball that can be used as a dynamic pull weight, flinging the small bug around in a similar way to how Thor uses Mjolnir in the Marvel cinematic universe – which is bloody cool, and leads to some ridiculous platforming akin to the 2D Sonic the Hedgehog games.

Mokumana Island will be home to “a whole host of quirky villagers,” adding a wholesome and whimsical charm to the game’s atmosphere upon first impressions; characters like Juice Master Spina, Cove Mushroom-craving Fosfor, and more.

Villa Gorilla, a Swedish studio founded by industry veterans Jens Andersson (The DarknessEnclave) and Mattias Snygg (The DarknessSyndicate) with the goal of creating “small and unique games with a focus on innovative game design and beautiful execution.” And by the looks of this new trailer, that’s exactly what they’re doing.

Expect to get your hands on Yoku’s Island Express for Xbox One, Playstation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC in Q2 of 2018.
