The Independent Games Festival juries have finally come to their decisions on who is through to the final judging round for their awards honouring the most outstanding games development in 2014. Down from a list of over 650 entrants, the judging panel has announced 30 games in various categories to be considered for the best in their field.

Ranging from Excellence in Visual Art, Narrative, Design and Audio, to categories like the Nuovo award – which honours “abstract…and unconventional game development” – the IGF awards aim to find the best examples of indie development of the year, with the pick of the litter being awarded the Seumas McNally Grand Prize.

Leading the pack this year, with nominations in 4 categories each (including the $30,000 Seumas McNally Grand Prize) are DEVICE 6 (Simogo) and Papers, Please (dukope). It also appears to be a very good year for Michael Brough, as two of his games (868-HACK and Corrypt) are nominated for Excellence in Design and the Nuovo Award respectively.

Other stand-out nominations range from Davey Wreden‘s The Stanley Parable (Narrative, Audio and Seumas McNally GP) a superb narrative on the very nature of game design and player interaction, to Arcane Kids’ Perfect Stride (Visual Art), a hyper, first-person in-line skater with more neon than the Las Vegas strip.

All the finalists will be playable in the IGF Pavilion at the Game Developers Conference 2014, between March 19-21 at San Francisco’s Moscone Center.
