Developer Brian Provinciano has announced that an improved edition of 8-bit, top-down sandbox shooter Retro City Rampage is on the way.

Retro City Rampage DX will boast a number of upgrades over the original 2012 version of the game when it releases next week on PC, Mac, PS4, PS3, PS Vita, Xbox 360 and Wii Ware.

Chief among these upgrades are an overhauled weapon-selection system, new challenges, weapons, graphics modes and a brand new HUD. PlayStation owning folk meanwhile get an additional bonus in the form of a Cross-Buy support, allowing those who already own the game on PS3 or Vita to pick up the DX version of the game on PS4 at no extra cost.

Speaking about the new edition of the game, Provinciano was keen to elaborate on all the additional effort that’s going into it, stating “For DX, every single mission’s been re-tuned. Vehicles. Weapons. Challenges. Visual Effects. Visual Enhancements. Checkpoints. Difficulty. Challenges. From the game’s core to sprinkles on top, such as parking garages and way points, it’s more than just a new coat of paint.”

The release of Retro City Rampage DX next month has also meant that the original will be removed from sale.  Thankfully, it’ll be included in DX as a bonus.

Retro City Rampage DX will arrive first on PlayStation platforms on November 11 with a launch week discount of 20% off making the game retail for $9.99.  PlayStation Plus subscribers meanwhile, will get even more shaved off the price as the game will retail for $7.99 during launch week for active subscribers.

All other platforms are tipped to follow in the days afterward.
