Spelunky Creator Set To Write A Book On The Game’s Story Liam Padfield July 9, 2015 Archives Spelunky, an indie platforming game, initially released as freeware on Microsoft Windows in 2008. The game was then re-released and ported in 2013 and 2014 to Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita and Microsoft Windows again. Creator Derek Yu is now writing a book on the hit indie title’s development and how it’s grown from humble beginnings. The developer has partnered with Boss Fight Books to tell the story about the game’s creation. Boss Fight Books have published many other books from game developers, creators and critics from Baldur’s Gate II by Matt Bell, to Super Mario Bros. 2 by Jon Irwin. On the pre-order page, Boss Fight Books says that the book is their first autobiographical game development story. The book will be “a game design manifesto in which Derek Yu uses his own game to discuss wide-ranging topics such as randomization, creative process, team dynamics, the philosophy of challenging games, and player feedback” according to the site. The book is available for pre-order now and should be here this summer. Source: VG247.
