The sequel to prison break strategy game The Escapists has a confirmed release date of the 22nd August, according to publishers Team 17 and developers Mouldy Toof Studios.

The Escapists 2 will make use of higher-resolution sprites and offers players more options for escape than the previous game, as well as an improved battle system and more items to craft.

The sequel also promises a multiplayer mode, with co-operative and versus modes that can be played both online and locally, an option that’s always nice to see in an era of games that usually discards the latter feature in place of an exclusively online multiplayer.

Team 17 have also revealed that those pre-ordering The Escapists 2 will receive a bonus prison called ‘The Glorious Regime,’ taking place in a jungle environment appearing inspired by the prisons of Marxist-Leninist regimes.
