In an interview with French publication Alchimy, co-founder of Dontnod Alain Damasio confirmed that a second season of Life Is Strange is soon to begin development. However, since the news story broke a few hours ago, the answer revealing the sequel seems to have been amended, leaving a much vaguer response.

When asked what video game projects he had worked on, Damasio was initially quoted as saying, “I worked as a script doctor on Life is Strange developed by the studio DONTNOD and I will participate on Life is Strange 2 later”.

Pretty cut-and-dry, right? Season two confirmed, this thing is happening.

Not anymore.

Perhaps his announcement was a little premature, as when I translated the interview to check the quote, it now curiously reads, ” If there were to be a sequel, I would (be) happy to contribute, of course.”

Now, I’m willing to concede it’s possible that because the interview was conducted in French, it was translated incorrectly (the initial translation came through a Reddit thread), but it’s far more likely Damasio made the off-the-cuff remark, later realised he’d let the cat out of the proverbial bag, and contacted the publication to “clarify” his answer.

Since there’s already been talk of a second season following the series’ moderate commercial and critical  success, it’s a pretty safe bet we’ll get a less wishy-washy announcement soon.

No matter what the second season might bring, it’s pretty certain that we’ve bid farewell to Max and Chloe. You can read more on their friendship and it’s parallels to my own here.
